Plot/Intro: Maajohto is a fantasy world in which two kingdoms exist. Virta is a large kingdom with many rivers and farm lands. Most of its citizens are either farmers or fisherman but there are also many successful merchants and many choose to enlist in the kingdom's armies. There are two main cities in Vita. Joki is the large prosperous capital located at the intersection of two rivers and Thonodor is a smaller town in which many farmers and fisherman live but through which many other citizens travel. Virta is ruled by Queen Irissel whose father took the throne in a an uprising only 15 years ago. Her father just died so she is a relatively new queen who is trying to make up for the bloody reign of her father. Those who remain loyal to old royal family are still bitter toward the queen for what her father did and are planning to take the throne back.
The Kingdom-City of Eleria is massive and mostly circular, set upon a manmade island. It was created approximitly two-hundred years in the past, and remains an incredible feat of engineering. The archetectural techniques used in it's construction have partially been lost, though there are countless residents who are glad to say their theories. It actually sits atop a massive series of catacombs, which are nearly a city in their own right. Eleria is a very hierarchal society, set in a chamber of tiers. At the bottom of the spectrum are common residents and "lesser" craftspeople. Above this are merchants and elected officials. The third rank are nobles. The entire noble class is composed of artists and inventors. Generally one must be born into this class, though promotions for exceptional talent are not unheard of. Above the nobles are higher officials, cousins of the royal family. Absolute authority is held by the queen Tara. A prime minister actually runs much of the city, but Tara is far from a mere figurehead. Guests to Eleria are usually met with suspicion. They are mostly treated as if they are in the 2nd class, with merchants. However the law can be rather harsh with outsiders who commit crimes.
There are whispers of magic throughout the land of Maajohto but those with the ability, if found out, are usually burned at the stake or beheaded for witchcraft or sorcery. Maybe someday they will be able to show their faces without that fear.
