Prince John...the Snake-Headed? [/I]
King Richard the Lion-Hearted is by far the best king in all of history, but why has he been so distant? His regular visits to the people have become few and far apart; while Prince John seems more predominate. Has Nottingham’s beloved King become too trusting in his younger brother? Could it be this Snake-Headed Prince that is starting to tax subjects into poverty? And if so, whom is this puppeteer pupating? Unknown to the people, King Richard the Lion-Hearted has not forgotten them. In fact, he believes they are receiving the best care that he could provide as he prepares to go away to the crusades. To insure that this care is continued, King Richard has decided to invite someone special to Nottingham to keep his brother on track, and hopefully bring peace of mind to his people...but will it work? And who is it?
What lies beneath the lake? [/I]
In the midst of the cold, frosty winter the grounds are often covered in snow or glistening with frost. The chilly wind blows through the trees of Sherewood and over the rooftops of Nottingham. And, as all ways in years past, the lake freezes over. This year, it is different. Though the ground is still frost-covered and the wind is still chilly, the lake is shrouded in a mysterious steam that rolls off of it continuously. Some say you can hear voices in the mist and splashes far too large for the common fish. Others pretend that they don’t notice. But even in the far reaches of their minds, everyone is wondering, “What lies beneath the lake?”
**Mythical Ledged that the storyline follows: [/I]
The ocean’s are vast –as far reaching as the sky and so deep the sea’s water meets the earth’s fire. It holds in secret creatures only imagined of, only created in fairytales. It encompasses forests as green as this in the summer and quarries filled with sparkling jewels. In all, the greatest is Mhara –kingdom of the merpeople or Dolfolk, after their dolphin brethren.
It was ruled by a fair, mighty king and his advisors. Among them were the Lady of the Sea and her counsel. They were highly regarded and in some ways feared. It was rumored among the Dolfolk that the Lady had once been a dolphin who took up the task of guiding the Merpeople in their earlier existence and she, with her enchanted counsel of Mermaids, helped create Mhara.
The true tale begins on a day when peace was shattered. Driven by hate, a wicked being, Droch, sought to overthrow Mhara. He attacked, quickly overcoming Mhara’s defenses and wounding the king. The Lady of the Sea and her counsel took it upon themselves to shield the last of their kind. Their power was quickly spent and soon all seemed lost. In one last effort, the counsel opened up a large gap in the sea. With the last of their strength they banished Droch into it and sealed it forever, but not before he uttered a curse upon them.
Their power spent and a curse upon them, the king and his people –the very ones they had saved, locked them away, fearful of the awful tragedy they could bring. The only way they could return, was to break the curse
